The High Level Bridge, Lethbridge, Alberta
The High Level Bridge, Lethbridge, Alberta

Lethbridge, Alberta, lies 210 kilometres (130 miles) southeast of Calgary on the Oldman River.

Lethbridge is the largest city in southern Alberta. It is Alberta's fourth-largest city by population after Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer, and the third-largest by area after Calgary and Edmonton. The nearby Canadian Rockies contribute to the city's cool summers, mild winters, and windy climate.

Lethbridge, with a population of over 85,000, is the commercial, financial, transportation and industrial centre of southern Alberta. Four provincial highways (Hwy #3, Hwy #4, Hwy #5, and Hwy #25) run through or terminate in Lethbridge.

Built for rail traffic and considered one of the wonders of the world when it opened in 1909, the High Level Bridge is the longest and highest of its kind in the world reaching 5,327.625 feet long (1.6km) and 314 feet high (96 meters). It is still in use today.
